Wow. Mine isn't nearly as interesting! Maternal grandparents are from Italy, paternal grandparents are from Czechloslovakia--or what once was Czechloslovakia! Mom and dad and me all born in Pennsylvania, USA.

I am a lot like Violet, a Pedigree American Mutt.

Literally, "everyone else's background" is East Africa. DNA research has proved that we have all spread around the globe from that one area long, l-o-n-g ago!
As for me, I'm a British mongrel - Scots, Welsh, English north, middle, and south, going back ultimately to French in the 13th century.

Scottish, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Canadian (Newfoundland), Irish, English -- perhaps a bit of French (not confirmed yet) -- plus a dash of sugar!

Irish & French on my dad's side (his father is irish and mother is french. I also suspect Jewish somewhere in there)
and Scottish and English on my Mother's.

---Highland Scot (from Eigg and Argyll), Irish (from County Donegal), and English (Kent) on my mother's side--ophs, I forgot the Dutch and German Palatine ancestors. By the way, my Great Grandfather Dougherty was born in Castlemore, Ontario (where the Toronto airport is located).

---Scottish (from Edinburgh and Skye), English (London), Scotch-Irish (Ulster-Irish--Antrim) with a dash of French on my dad's side

All my grandparents were born in rural North or Central Texas.

P. S. Jan, my Great-Great Great Paternal Granddad, Archibald McDonald, and my Great-Great Great Grandmother, Margaret Duncan McDonald, died in Wills Point, Van Zandt, Texas. Their son and his wife, my Great Great Grandparents, Thomas McDonald and Mary Beavers McDonald, died in Elmo, Kaufman, Texas (4 miles away), as did my Great-Grandparents, Marcus Dickerson and Susan McDonald. Finally, my paternal Grandmother, Mayme Dickerson Smith, was also born in Elmo, Texas. Whew! You're not related to a Dickerson or McDonald by any chance? LOL

My immediate family was born in Iowa, except me--I was born in Missouri. My maternal grandfather's family dates back to England before William the Conqueror came over there from Normandy, France in 1066 (their hometown--named Coston, my Mom's maiden name--is listed in his Domesday Book census of 1086). Grandpa always said the family was French, so I'm wondering if the townspeople mixed in with William's soldiers a bit too much (LOL).
My maternal Grandmother came from Wills Point, Texas by way of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Each of her parents came from a family of 13 children, with 1 dying in infancy --leaving an even dozen. When they got married, they followed suit. My Grandma was number 6, I think. Somewhere in her mother's side of the family (Cunningham), we had a Native American ancestor (yes, a Cherokee. Everyone called her "Pocahontas", but I think that was her nickname).
My Dad's (step-dad, to be technical)family was English, Pennsylvania Dutch, and Irish (maybe that's where the red hair in the family comes from??).
So, I just tell everybody that I'm "Dutch, Irish, English, Indian, a pinch of French, and all-American." LOL

All parents and grandparents born in Bristol, England.
Dad's grandparents - 1 pair moved to Bristol from Crediton, Devon, England, where they were sheep shearers (back to 1500's with a little hiccup where they include a Beniamin Bourgoyne m Gatherude Rue so I guess some French genes)
1 pair were descendants of a mining family in the pits of South Gloucestershire, England, which included marriage into the family of a lass from Trevethin, Wales
Mum's grandparents - 1 pair were bargemen from 1830 on Kennet & Avon canal and River Avon, around Bristol and Bath. Before that they were Ag labs in Castle Cary, Somerset, till one member of the family stole £200 and was shipped off to Oz.! This branch included a marriage with a Scottish family called Grant.
The other pair from Bishops Nympton/Chittlehampton, N. Devon. moved to Bristol circa 1860. My Gt. gt. grandmother from there died in South Molton Workhouse of "gradual decay"!
Unless you come from a Noble family, it is well-nigh impossible to trace records back before the 1500's for "ordinary folk". Little in the way of Parish Records were kept and any that were, mostly gone the way of all flesh, so the best I've done is a baptism in 1550 of a William s/o John.
My matrilineal DNA places my original ancestors somewhere East of where Moscow is now, some 17,000 years ago, with a Clan Mother they have called "Una"
Husband's ancestors were part Portuguese and part Lithuanian.
