Question:why was louisiana tree adopted

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: why was louisiana tree adopted

The Louisiana Legislature Act 49 of 1963 provided that, "The bald cypress (Taxodium distichum), commonly known as the cypress tree, is hereby designated and hereafter shall be known as the official state tree of the State of Louisiana"

The Bald Cypress was chosen because it grows in so many areas of the state, particularly in swampy areas. Since 40 percent of Louisiana's land is alluvial or swamp land, the Bald Cypress is an ideal symbol for the State Tree.
