Question:What origin does the surname Alexeas come from?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: What origin does the surname Alexeas come from?

The social security death index only has 7 of the name, so yes, it is not common. The first name of 2 of the early guys DEFINITELY seem Greek, which is consistent with what the previous poster finds.
The bonus for you.. it should be extremely easy to work back to (maybe) your grandfather/ gr grandfather, using family records (birth/death certs), and locate your family in the 1930 census. For example.. Dimitrios might be your relative. If he is in the 1930 census, it includes his place of birth AND the place of birth for his parents.
The time frame is very good that ancestry may have the actual immigration list for your ancestor. If you can find a definite name.. please post it here, and we can probably pull this up for you.

Alexandar ? Just a guess.

Greek, or Turkish

seems greek

The vast majority of immigrants coming into the US with that surname were coming from Greece. (Ancestry.com). Genealogy.com indicates that most were from a town called Sitsova (or Sitsora).

I would suggest searching the internet for a Greek phone book like www.switchboard.com (the American equivalent). I see it is a very uncommon name, as there are only 2 people in NY state with that surname (using switchboard).

Good luck
