Position:Home>Genealogy> Doe you have a listing for Fred Henley in the obitiuaries?

Question:***COMPLETE REWRITE****

Was Fred his real name? The reason why I ask is because I found a webpage that makes a reference to Fred Henley, but it appears that Fred was a name he went by and had the initials. W.H. Here is a link to the page:

Is this your man? If so, what does the W.H. stand for? Also, if we have a time frame, it would help us out tremendously.

EDIT: According to a public records index, I believe that W.H. Henley probably stands for Winfred H. Henley, thus it would make sense that he used the name Fred. He would be about 84 today... Am I on the right track?

I believe I found his family in the 1930 census:

Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama; Roll: 27; Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 59; Image: 15.0.
Household Members: Name Age
James C Henley 38
Annie Henley 33
Winfred H Henley 6

With that, I did a search in the Social Security Death index and was unable to find him, which indicates that his death must have been pretty recent, if he in fact died. I searched using Fred and Winfred. As you can see, Wendy tried searching under Henley in the local paper. Are you sure that he has passed on?

Pam, this seems to be the main newspaper for the area. I used their search box and Henley did not come up. You don't indicate how recent this is. A dear friend of mine passed away a few months ago, and his wife never had an obit placed. Since she and I are both genealogists, this surprised the heck out of me.
If it does not show up in the next few days, the website for the paper has 'contact us' option. I am sure someone there at the paper can verify if there is/isn't one to be posted..
If you were close enough to this person, an alternate is to contact the funeral home for information.
