Someone I work with, who researches their family tree, told me that. i can get it but i subscribe to the ancestry UK website. i think the burnt records thingy relates to Ireland. good luck. i is a fellow thicko!!!! The British census started in 1801. www.familysearch.org has the british census for 1881 for free The first True British Census Was the 1837 Census.There Were Census of a Kind before that .But very Limited.Most records Before that are in Parish Records.
