Question:I am trying to trace this surname. Is it Finnish or Swedish in origin? My family claims my great great grandparents were Swedes who came to Finland with this surname.

Anyhow, it's to crazy of name for me to find anything on it off yahoo. Anyone have some good Scandinavian geneology links?

It sounds Finnish to me (I'm a Finn myself), and I'm pretty confident of this.

There might be an misunderstanding, though. I am assuming you are a citizen of the U.S., and your family thinks you have Swedish roots. This is a pretty common misunderstanding, as almost every "Swedish" immigrant was infact a Finn, just living in the Swedish area (as almost whole north-eastern Sweden is inhabited by Finnish speakers).

I think your roots are of Finnish origin.

Doing a fast search it looks like your family came to the US from Canada! In the immigration records I searched I only found William Wittikko 20 Oct 1906 born abt 1882 Quebec, Canada

the 1920 census has 3 Whittkko's Peter O Wittikko claims Swedish heritage Hilda Wittikko says Finish heritage and John W Wittikko from Michigan. all three from Blue Jacket, Houghton, Michigan

Jack Wittikko says he is of Finish heritage on the WWI draft card

If you put Wittikko into text cat it says the name is Finish
if you put Witikko into textcat it says the name is Basque

My take would be Finish, or possibly it is Basque/Canadian/Sweedish/Michiganees. You will have to research your line back to find exactly where it came from. If you can't find the people here in the US then you need to not start from the place they came from and work on how they got here and that will assist you in learning more about where they came from.

It's a Finnish name, but given the geopolitics of the region, I'm sure it could have been Swedish once upon a time. If you'd like to research the family further, contact the Finnish-American Heritage Center and Archives at Finlandia University in Hancock, MI. They have the finest collection of records on Finnish immigration and access to records back in Finland (as well as language experts to translate them from either Swedish, Finnish or Russian, depending on the era). If you're ever able to make the trip up there, it's also a beautiful place to vacation.
