Question:Look up information on Austria?
I ask for a "family genealogy" answer. To answer this mystery (to me it is) I NEED any and pretty much ALL information on the "Royal family(s)" of Austria. If Austria has never had any royal families, forgive me for asking, due to the lack of knowledge, and the LACK of information from my great aunt. Thanks SO much to everyone who answers will help me out here...

Austria-Hungary was an empire made up of many smaller countries. There were MANY royal and noble families in the lands that used to belong to Austria-Hungary, more than just the Habsburgs.

If you have something specific you're trying to find, let us know and we'll be more than happy to help you search for it. Realize that just 100 years ago, there were more than 100 royals in Europe and they were all inter-related, except the odd line like the Grimaldis. We'd be happy to help you look.

I used the search terms Austrian Royal Family Tree and alot of useful looking websites showed up. (Google)
Wikipedia also seems to have something detailed in there. I hope this gets you closer to what you're looking for!
If your trying to find a tie in with a family it is easier to start with yourself or the relative (like your grandmother) who claims to have the ties and trace backwards. It is impossible to trace a tree forwards.

Look up Habsburg (usually spelled Hapsburg in English as that how it is sounded in German). The b at the end of a syllable in German is pronounced like a p in English.

The Habsburgs ruled almost all of Europe at one time.

I can't say that these are specialized towards Austrian royalty or nobility, but perhaps one of these will also help you.
It is really wonderful when older family members work with you, as far as leads and such. For the senior family members, they often 'held' onto the family history, long before we had the type of resources we do now. Very often they were in a time when finding documents or such would be impossible, as we can today.
I do agree strongly with the poster who advised to be sure and get what you can at this end, and focus on the immigrant person. From 'this side' you can often locate their immigration list (even see the original manifest), and if naturalized, that record will give you the info you need.. ie NAMES, dates, and town of origin. Those are what you need, whether they actually connect to any royalty or not.
Rootsweb sponsors email lists for most countries, where you may bump into persons who live in the country and have excellent knowledge. These are not sites, but come to your mailbox.

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia with lots of helpful information. Franz Joseph was the last Emperor of Austria. From the link below, you can find out about him and his ancestors.
