Position:Home>Genealogy> I have a theory about my potential height... will anyone see if this is true?

Question:Well I'm 14, female and I'm 5'8... I come 100% from my dad dads side of the family and I look very much like my grandgranduncle and grandfather and they were both pretty tall... over 6'0 and something... so does that mean I will still grow?

Well it's hard to determine. If you haven't grown much in the last months then you've probably already reached your full growth but you are only 14 so you might well grow another couple of inches still.

maybe

Most likely.

Children normally grow to be at least as tall as their shortest parent. This is usually the mother but not necessarily so. You share 50% of your genes with your mother so unfortunately, no matter how much you think you take after your father, you mother's height will be a factor in your eventual height. If you are already taller than your mother, then perhaps you will not grow much more. But then you are only 14 and people normally grow until late teens to early twenties so there's a good chance you will continue anyway.

that depends. if your mom is shorter then you've most likely reached the maximum height that youll ever be. you might grow an inch or two over the years but that's about it.

they say that after the period girls dont grow anymore,but o grew almost 2 inches after my period,a little after i was 13,so it's possible that you will have a growth explosion;
it's not guaranteed,but you might.
The thing with me was that i was alway little and even now i'm not close to a normal height
Wish you luck

check with a doctor. I know that when i was born the doctors told my parents that I would grow to be about 6 or so ft. They might have it in ur records or something.

If it's available, check your height on your second birthday. Double it and that's very close to your final height. This formula has been shown to be very accurate.

from the way u describe it i think so...

First, you do NOT come 100% from your father's side. You ARE 50% of your mother and 50% of your father. That is how genetics works. It does not matter that you APPEAR to be like your father's side and nothing like your mother's side. You are still 50% your mother, and there are things about you that come from her.

Second, what Kengem said is correct. I am a Registered Nurse and they actually teach us that formula in nursing school, so screw you to whoever gave Kengem a thumbs down. This is the accepted formula in the medical field.

Third, this is NOT A GENEALOGY QUESTION!!!!! This is a GENETICS question. They are NOT the same thing. Genetics is a science, genealogy is historical research. You asked your question in the wrong category.

We don't have enough information to tell if your theory is a good one or not. But your doctor does. Ask your doctor to review your records and tell you how much growing you have left. It is true that if you know how tall you were on your second birthday, it will be within an inch or two of your final adult height. See if your mom kept any of that information for you to use.
