Position:Home>Genealogy> Looking for Hamilton family ancestors?

Question:I'm trying to trace my family history and got as far back as my great great great grandfather, called William Hamilton he married a woman called Catherine Robertson. He was born in the 1700s but I can't find a date or place of birth. My great great grandfather was born in the town of Moffat in the Scottish borders, later moving to Inverness where he started an auction business. I've been to Inverness library and spent time with the geneologist who was extremely helpful. I am a member of Scotlands People and been doing extensive research but hit a brick wall with William Hamilton. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can try next? I've looked on the banns and marriages, births etc but to no avail.
