Question Home

Position:Home>Genealogy> Is it possible to get someone to type my genealogy info into database?

Question:Sure.

Ask your local high school "Basic Computer Skills" teacher to suggest someone. $10 per hour seems about right in the US. He or she could stop in after school, work for two hours and go home to do her/his homework. It would be easier than yard work or a paper route for her/him, and you'd pay less than you would for a professional secretary.

I like the Roots Magic ($29) software package, which has a very good data base design. Family Tree Maker ($35) is the market leader in the USA. PAF (Free) has its fans too. Write if you need links.

Any reasonably competent high school student should be able to learn how to use any of the three in an hour or two, then start typing.

That's the answer to the question you asked. You didn't ask if it was a good idea. Most of us do our own typing, using two to ten fingers. You'd save money but lose time if you did it yourself.

There are some huge sites I know of, apart from TribalPages, that allow you to upload your data, Roots Web World Connect, GenCircles and Ancestry's "World Tree". There are some others, too; Kindred Konnections and Geneanet. Write if you are interested in those.
