You can change your name to anything you want, even a single letter all by itself.
As to time and method, this varies state by state.
In the US, the best starting point would be the court clerk of the court of venue (court responsible for handling name changes). In california, its like $40, 3 days in a row publication, and mail it in. In Colorado, Its very expensive, 21 days publication, an FBI check, fingerprints and photos. Acutally, (I have changed my name), the problem is not time or method or cost. Changing your name is relatively simple compared to the massive amount of work involved once you have changed your name. Once you get the final court decree, then there is IRS, passport, driver's license, social security, banks, credit cards, auto registration, home ownership(title), phone, utilities, insurance, employment and payroll, Oh gawds, the list is endless. I kept track and there were 43 different items on my list, most quite complicated and time consuming. So whatever you do, if you change your name, make sure it is what you REALLY REALLY want...... Good Luck

Yes, you can, all of it,

And as to time and methood,
I don't know..sorry.
Try asking at a city government building maybe.

Hope this helps some!
