This shows that Marion McDonouh married Flora A Combs in Butler Ohio on 5 November 1881

All the Scottish/Irish names change through the years, because they were written as pronounced by officials who spelt it as they wanted

try the death certificate, probably can get it in town hall where she is buried.

Not a very common name. All I found was your mother's obituary and a Marion McDonough with the wrong date 1886.

well sweetie in that time people were born in there parents house by a mid wife. i may be hard to find where they were born b/c addresses had changed b/c of the growing population. you may want to look up birth certificates,, maybe old mid wifes in the area her parents lived to see if any of their relatives have anything on record

Do you have her mother's first name?

Maiden name McDonahoe and married name McDonough sound like she started Scots or Irish and didn't marry too far outside of it. I couldn't find a Marion McDonahoe with wife Flora in the census from 1850 - 1930, even with Soundex.

If she had an SSN and it is worth $27 to you, you can buy a copy of her SSN application, which will have her birth place and how she spelled her parents' names. Death certs are notorious for misspellings, since people are in shock at the time and don't always stop to look names up.

Thanks to the clue from the lady above, this looks like Flora in 1880

If she had a social security number, do as Ted stated, get a copy of her social security number application. The two I have seen gives the names and places of birth(not just the state) of the applicant as well as both parents and the mother's maiden name.

I actually feel the information is more reliable on an application for a social security number as the person applying for social security knew all the information asked while the death certificate depends on a widow or widower remembering where their inlaws were born or one of the children remembering where their grandparents were born.

The only exception being if she had to get her social security number when elderly, maybe to get Medicaid benefits. Then sometimes the information might be confused.

Did she have siblings? Look up their info. There may be some clues there to lead you to a town. You never know when clues from other family members will help.

Where was the family living in 1880?

Keep in mind the spelling of the name may be different....everyone didn't write or it may have been recorded differently.

Have you looked into a basic geneology book to help you learn how to conduct research?
