Question:My second cousins? Or my first cousins once removed?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: My second cousins? Or my first cousins once removed?

First once removed, if you mean your first cousin.

All of your cousins' children - children of your first, second, third, . . . are yours too, but once removed. So your third cousin's children are your 3C1R, as we say.

Your cousins' grandchildren will be yours twice removed. If you were to trace out to the 4th or 5th cousin, I'd bet you'd find some old enough to have grandchildren.

It goes the other way, too. All of your parents' cousins are yours in the same degree (1st, 2nd, 3rd) but once removed. Your grandparents' cousins are yours twice removed, and so on up the ladder.

Very few people know anyone more distant than second cousin and one or two removed, unless someone is famous. I know a lady who is President John Adams' half first cousin 7 times removed, and a man who is movie star Tom Cruise's 7th cousin.

Children of siblings are first cousins. Children of first cousins are second cousins, and so on. As I said, most people don't keep track very far. The numbers get huge. Something like 80% of the people in England are 12th cousins or closer.

Their your second cousins. Nothing has been removed

I'm pretty sure they are your first cousins, once removed.

If your cousin is a "first," then his/her kids would be your 1st cousins once removed. Your children and his/her children will be 2nd cousins.

First cousins once removed. the 'first' parts means their parents are of your relative generation, the 'removed' part means that their bloodline is one step further away from yours.

First cousin, once removed. Check out the chart on the source.

First cousins once removed.

sorry Katie bug.. a generation is removed.
Everyone with first cousin once ("one generation") removed is accurate.

yep

They are your first cousins once removed, the removed is in regard to your common ancestor, which would be a grandparent.

Good luck and good hunting

I think you can call them either. Its just different terminology.

First cousins once removed.
First cousins have the same grandparents. When a first cousin has a child the relationship between that child and the parent's first cousin is first cousin once removed.
Second cousins have the same great grandparents. A second cousin once removed folows the same pattern as that for first once removed.

Simpler than it sounds!

They are your first cousins once removed.
They are your children's second cousins.
