Question Home

Position:Home>Genealogy> WHAT big break did you have this week (recently??)?

Question:Jumping for joy...
I just found out that my local library allows FROM HOME access for Heritage quest.. using a local library card, I can access from home. This is opening huge doors for many towns to get otherwise fee based info at home.
So.. what did you learn that will encourage someone else? I ADMIT IT- I sometimes deliberately open up some "feel good" comments to boost spirits.. even if it is a personal "wow, I didn't think I would ever find THAT"

Glad to hear you are happy!! although this question? is close to being against the rules... LOL But good luck.. Most libraries allow members to have access to the majority of their materials from home and in Canada we can access the Parliamentary Library in Ottawa also. people tend to forget places like libraries, local government, and federal governments etc when doing research. They have lots of information and 9/10 it's free. remember how we got information before the Internet??? as for a big break this weekend for me??? no such luck!!

I learned about the Family Search Indexing Project - where you can sign up and volunteer to transcribe info over from images they have up. http://www.familysearchindexing.org/

Otherwise, still am hoping for a miracle, or a lottery windfall to finance long periods of in person research in the Dakotas. :)

Did find some more people on my tree by proofing it over and just checking for any SSDI hits for unknown dod in the area that their parents lived - was surprised so many came back to the area, especially when they had lived in different states in 1930.

Wendy, didn't I tell you about that a few weeks ago ; ) told you it was a great thing so now you don't have to run down to the library for every census well at least most of them there are some holes with Heritage quest but its great, My big break this week finally found my great aunts burial in Northern Minnesota problem is I will have to wait till spring for a good picture of her headstone. I'm happy for ya Wendy! =)

I have found that The Italian Genealogical Group have gone back further than the SSDI in NY and they have information on New Yorkers that you don't find on Ancestry.com http://www.italiangen.org/databaselist.s...
Check out what The German Genealogical Group has on the net.http://www.germangenealogygroup.com/othe...
I also found a TV Show that is on every week that talks about family genealogy.http://www.byubroadcasting.org/ancestors...
I thought that I was done with my family tree, but these three new sources have me looking up many of my ancestors again and finding new information. I hope my links help someone out there.
