I checked the baby name sites and Makisha appears to be a "created" name.

http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ says:
similar names are Takisha, Jakisha, Lakisha and Nakisha.
They are considered a variant of the girl's name Aisha (pronounced ah-EE-shah, AY-shah). It is of Arabic origin, and its meaning is "alive and well". Aisha was the favorite wife of the prophet Muhammad. The name is also linked to the moon goddess.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN "AROUND THE WAY"NAME LIKE.MY FINE AFRICAN AMERICAN SISTERS HAVE...IT'S PRETTY NONTHELESS...lol

Most likely it is a "made-up" name...though I don't know that for sure...
Google the terms "name origins" or "meanings of first names"...things like that...you'll get a plethora of sites to choose from...
