Question:Francis?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Francis?

No name is stupid, they are all just groups of sounds and letters that humans use to identify people & things. Most names go in and out of fashion on a regular basis, some come back, some don't, some seem to stay in use for longer periods of times then others. Francis and the female variation Frances are both time honored names that have their roots in Latin. Many nationalities use some form of Francis.

i had a best friend named Francis. he wasn't embarassed of it but people can be more emotional.

It's not a stupid name, but its definitely an old-fashioned name.

You should be proud of this name. Francis is one of the last surviving names of Latin. In Latin, this name has a strong meaning of "to be free". And if you are in America I'll give you the flag and solute you.

Wasn't that Frank Sinatras real 1st name....Its an okay name....Call yourself Frank if you want....Lots of people have older names..........

"Frank" Francis Albert Sinatra (1915-1998), the actor and singer who was leader of the Rat Pack, and Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (1896-1940), a friend of Ernest Hemingway and the writer who chronicled the Jazz Age, both share the first name of "Francis"--not to mention Francis Scott Key (1779-1843), the author of the "Star Spangled Banner". Accordingly, Francis sounds like a very American name.

Francis used to be a favorite name among Catholics. I have 2 uncles, one on each side of my parents, named Francis Xavier. But they both ended up calling themselves Frank. Personally I like Francis better.

Well that all depends on how old you are!!!

If your like teens early 20's then yea i feel sorry for you.

If you like in your late 30's or so then it ok

Although there are a few kids with that name that are like 5 - 11

About 3 out of every 100 males born in 1780 - 1820 in the south were named "Francis" or "Francis Marion", after Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox", on who Mel Gibson's movie "The Patriot" was loosely based. I thing they were doubly cursed, since both "Francis" and "Marion" can be boys names or girls names, but Colonel Marion was a heck of a soldier, and southerners admire fighting skills. Most families who were having children 1861 - 1920 in the south have a son named Robert or Robert Lee.

I wouldn't call it "stupid", but I don't think parents should saddle their children with names that can be men or women, like "Pat", "Sandy", "Marion", "Carol" and "Francis/Frances". There are worse. There are half a dozen people named "Frost N. Snow" on the LDS 1880 census. I went to school with a boy named "Caroll" but he got his growth early, and people didn't make fun of him more than once.

There was a character named "Francis" on the TV show "Malcolm in the Middle". If you want to see a couple of thousand entries for men named "Francis" on genealogy data bases, write and I'll send you the links.

its whatever you want it to be
