Question:I would like to know how to try to start tracing where my family came from. I have the names of my parents and their birth and death dates. It just seems like I can't move beyond what I know. I don't have any ideas on where to search. Most of the free search sites do not have Romania listed. Any help and ideas would be appreciated. Also, let me know if anyone knows of any Romanian translators or a place where I can find translators.

Hello, I am just the opposite, I was born in PA. but my father was Romanian and his parents came over in 1918. It is very hard to do research in Romania, but I have been doing it for a year now and am getting somewhere.

The monastery was founded by Princess Ileana of Romania. They should know of translators and may know of other resources that could help you.

this is a link to genealogy and history sources in Romania. You mention having their birth/death dates, however this does not mean that there were not relatives that you may be able to reach.
