Usually you have to pay for access to Scottish records, don't know why. The scotlandspeople site that itsjustme suggested is good and there are a few bits and bobs appearing on ancestry now, but off the top of my head I don't think they're free to access.

Some Family History Centers in LDS churches have Scottish Parish Records on CD's. You can look at them for free, but you do have to drive to the church. Find one near you, call and ask if they have them:
