Question:I want to know any information at all about the last name "Pavlatos". Where it is from, what it means, etc. I am the most interested in the Greek portion of my family tree and yet I have found the least information about it. Thank you!

Pavlatos is a quite common name used in Greece. It derives from Pavlos == Paul and it has the suffix -atos, which is the "trademark" of the Greek Island of Kefallonia (I guess because of its historical relation to Italy. For reasons of history. also, you may have relatives on the rest of the Eptanisa, such as Zakynthos or Ithaca -- the greek islands of the Ionian sea (western Greece)).

Someone named Pavlatos could possibly give you more information of the roots of his/her family in particular. If you can trace your ancestry back to Greece you can search for information there, maybe find the e-mail address of the municipalities etc and contact the authorities etc.

Yes, it appears to be Greek. Check out the website below. Most of the entries I saw at a glance at Ancestry showed they were from Greece.

this is one of many sites that came up when I googled Greek genealogy.
Another general suggestion is that www.rootsweb.com has email lists for almost any locality you can think of, where you can network with others doing Greek research. SOMETIMES (not always) persons who live in an area will be a list member. That can be a real bonus if you make yourself known politely, without expecting free help, and they often will offer to do local things for you. Or, a Pavlatos family lives down the road from them.
