Question:He had a medal Croix de guerr. He came from Gateshead and his birth was registerd in 1901. Name WILLIAM TROTTER-SMITH left my Great Grandmother with 2 children after the war and has never been heard of since .Can anyone help me find out what happend to him, did he have another family ??????????

There's nothing in the British Army Pension Records on ancestry.co.uk, and there's also nothing on cwgc or national archives. Chances are he changed his name which would make life very difficult, especially as there's a good chance he emigrated. Here's a site where you can search passenger lists out of the UK:

Do you know what became of his parents? If they were still alive in the 1920s, maybe he would have made contact with them. Getting in touch with any living descendants of that side of the family might throw up some clues.

try typing name into google advertise in gatehead newspaper
try the many online genealogy sites

I dont know where Gateshead is, but if he came over on the boat it is a good bet he came through Ellis Island, check the logs there, EllisIsland.com I think it is
