Beware overzealous social workers who impose their own opinions. My husband and his first wife adopted an infant, telling the state that they were open to contact with the biological mother if she wanted it. (His first wife passed away when the child was 4 and we married a year later) When the child was 20 and about to marry, my husband made a few calls and located the birth mothers parents. When we connected with the birth mother, we found out that social services had told her the adoptive parents wanted no attempts to contact them. This is a story with a happy ended. Our child and her birth mother have met and established a good relationship. Our child has also attended a family reunion and met lots of cousins, aunts and uncles. Our "child" is now 24 and has one son and another on the way.

*Btw, we found the birth mother because the original birth certificate had white-out covering her name. After a few years, the original ink came through the white-out. We knew where she was from and looked up the last name in the phone book for that area. The first call we tried was to her parents. Just lucky! No, God is good!

I would assume 18. That is pretty much the age of majority in GA!

I depends on how much information the child is looking for. For "non-identifying information" they must be 18, for "identifying information" they must be 21 and the biological parent needs to have signed a consent form. Otherwise the child will need to file a petition to have the information released. For more details, check out: http://laws.adoption.com/statutes/georgi...

Well that depends. was the adoption records sealed? If so, they it won't matter their age. Judge usually won't open them.
Did you say you wanted no contact?

Try posting on some of the adoptions boards. You might luck out there.

usually 18 and they can only find out if the record isnt sealed...or if they have written to the adoption agency looking for you and you have for them......this is how we found a cousin that was adopted at birth....good luck

Are they your brother's children too. If so, maybe he will let them visit you. We always hear what intelligent, loving, and kind people who live in Georgia are.
