I did some checking around and it looks like Nathan Faulkner/Fortner is a brick wall for a lot of people. I found an old query online that says the following:

FAULKNER/FORTNER, NATHAN
Nathan Faulkner/Fortner 1770 son Ancel Fortner and Issac, possibly Native American. Nathan 1 st wife an unknown Bussey.Lived in Edgefield co but due to possible NA heritage I felt from looking at old maps that he may have come from McCormick County.

there is contact information, but it is from 1999. Here is the link:

There are also quite a few entries on Nathan Faulkner/Fortner on this GenForum page. check it out

I haven't read through the queries, but you might find another researcher to compare notes with.

check these links out too.

Also, there is the Faulkner and Fortner mailing lists

Click on the individual Faulkner and Fortner links and then search the archives for posts. I'm sure that between all of these entries, you are bound to make new contacts or new discoveries.

I hope you find a connection. Take care

Tough one... you'll have to get lucky on this. You could look for baptismal or church records in Edgefield. Also, you could try to find cemetery listings for Edgefield, look for people of the same last name, and then try to prove or disprove those names. You could also try going through census records, look for people listed in Edgefield with his last name, or look for him as an adult (sometimes the parents' country of birth is listed). It may not give you thier names, but it might help you figure out where they came from. This is a long shot, but you could also try looking for revolutionary records - if this Nathan was born in 1770, it would be probable that his father would have been the right age to have been involved in the Revolution.

Try www.familysearch.org which is a very good site or subscribe to ancestry.com.
