Position:Home>Genealogy> Family relations: Can anyone tell me if the McGuinnesses and Lefroys are in any

Question:Just generally---
Both are of Irish descent, i am aware, thank you.
Both were successors of Ireland as well.
I was just wondering if the names were in any way
in relation? By blood, marriage, anything?
I really must know. I'm doing research but
haven't had much luck.

I'm tempted to spin a tale about Bridget McGuinness and Brian Lefroy, who had an affair that shocked all of Dublin in 1755. They were called the "Irish Romeo and Juliet" because their parents disapproved.

However, you might believe me so I won't. Seriously - trace them back and see. They might; they might not. My brother-in-law's line has a family in Arkansas with 9 children. Three of them married siblings in one family, three of them married siblings in a second family, three married siblings in a third family. It was a small, sparsely populated county. Now THAT's related!

You can check and see what areas of Ireland the names have occurred more often, if they are close you can assume there is a greater chance that there was at least a few marriages.

You can study the history of the clans and see if they had an alliance.

But for your family, just start with today and work back. Because there is no way to say if it was your ancestor, until you look as far as you can. And as long as you aren't about to marry your first or second cousin it really doesn't matter. Though it could make for a humerous genealogical coincidence.
