The 1900 census shows two from Austria/Poland. The reason it was shown that way Poland was divided between Prussia, Russia and Austria and apparently this couple came from the Austrian dominated portion of Poland .

However, the New York passenger list 1820-1957 have 5 listed as Italian, 1 listed as German and 1 listed as Japanese.

This is why in genealogy the origin of a surname is not very important. If this is your family name, the best thing to do is to trace your family starting with yourself and work back. Anytime you wish to do this, there are lots of great people on this board that can give you some good tips and advice. Just ask.

Rootsweb(free site) has 12 entries in family trees for Domi. Four are shown as born in Rome, four in Switzerland and one in France. The others do not have a place of birth. Part of Switzerland is Italian.

If you pull up the site, then put Domi in the World Connect block. You can then probe on a name and get the name and email address of the submitter.

Be very careful about taking as fact every thing you see in family trees on any website, free or paid. Most of the information is not documented and there are errors in family trees on the internet. Even if you see the same information repeated by different submitters, you can't take it for granted that it is right. A lot of people are copying.

I have searched all of the sites I know of that give the origins of surnames, but I can't find anything to do with the surname 'Domi' , sorry I cant help with this one.
