Ok Im not sure if this will help at all, but the name Guppy seems to be related to Urmston in two different ways if you look it up on the net.

1. Guppy paper merchants are located in a town called Urmston, not sure why this would make your great grandma surname her children Urmston but it could be a link somehow. Perhaps the children were illegitimate? and she did it to protect the fathers identity or they didnt like the last name Guppy?

2. A man called Henry Brougham Guppy wrote a book called "homes of family" in the 1890s in which he specified that the name Urmston was peculiar to the country of Cheshire so maybe that would be a clue on where to start looking?

Sorry again if this hasnt helped, but it was all I could find

Urmston perhaps a maiden name of your Great-Grandmother or a place name (?)

Many seem to be from England but there aren't enough details in your post as of yet. What country? Birth and death dates? Names of children (if not living)? et al .

Good luck!

Do you have the actual documents??
You say the last name on the birth certs is Urmston, but what is shown as the name of the father?
Do you have the marriage record for her and Mr Guppy? the obvious thing is the date of the marriage compared to birthdates for the Urmston children. If gr-ma and Mr Guppy married in 1940 but the children were born in the 1930's, then they are not necessarily his children.
And the marriage record for her and mr Guppy will show what her name was, when they got married. Have you verified the names of HER parents?
The most likely thing is that there is a first marriage, that people have forgotten about, or never knew. Getting documentation is basic to research, and usually clears up such things. IF you are early in your research, and those questions affect living persons, be tactful. There could be out of wedlock children, who may be embarrassed to admit it.
No, there is not any list like that. There are millions and millions of different records, both online and offline. That's the whole fun of it... to find the records that have to do with YOUR ancestors.

Hello; It would help to have Ann's birth info (or where and when she lived.) If you email me at gensearchers@shaw.ca I can try to help by searching census records etc.

Best wishes
