Marriage occurred about 1901

Ida [dau, b. abt 1916 Indiana]
Violet [dau, b. abt 1921Indiana]
Earl Hacker [gr-son, b. abt 1927 Indiana; Ethel's son]
Laoanna P. Hacker [gr-dau, b. abt 1929; Ethel's daughter]

1920 Census Mitchell, Lawrence, Indiana
Thomas (head), Helen (wife), Ethel, Charles T., Hazel, Ida Rachel

1910 census probably in Kentucky, not Indiana but I couldn't easily find it.

If you go to www.rootsweb.com, and click on the social security death index, you can do a search. There is an advanced search that people seldom use... I looked for Charles Stubblefield whose ss card was issued in Indiana. That actually brought 3 of them... one born 1909, on 1910 and one 1955 (that would not be your person).

Obits are tricky.. many claim that they are online, but I think only a fraction of them really are. More often, the older ones will be on microfilm at the library, that is, assuming that there even was one. NOT EVERYONE HAS THEM. He might.. but don't assume it will be on the internet.
You can use ancestry to look for the two guys in the 1930 census (try the free trial, or your local library may have free access). If you find them, does either one live in a county you know, or reasonably close? Wait, you say that Charles' father was Tom. That should help you match up.
You don't indicate if the child in the 1930's is from a marriage, OR if Charles shows as father on the birth certificate. If he is listed as dad, then it should be possible to order the death certificate. It is not impossible that neither of these guys is 'right'...if he died before 1960ish, there will be records but not ss death index.
If the main goal is finding his ancestry, you should be able to work from the 1930 (1920) census, backwards.
