Position:Home>Genealogy> Does anybody have any information on OMNITRACE? Are they legit? I am searching f

Question:my experience was horrible. I paid them about $1600 US to search for my birth parents. They assured me that they had had great success. They had approached me because I had filed info on an adoption search site. They were very persuasive. I never did get any answers. When they repeatedly failed to answer me I reported them to the better business bureau and their answer to them was that they had contacted me and that somehow it was all my fault. I spoke to someone at the state authorized matching bureau today who moaned when I told her that the certification letter I was due from them for listing myself with the state had never been sent to me. She told me she has heard my story too many times. personally I believe they are less than legit, to use your term. I might use stronger wording but I don't want to violate policy guidelines here, just trying to answer your question with my experience. wish someone had warned me. I have no knowledge as to their other offered products, but they are less than truthful about their ability to do adoption searches. I did question their ability to get into sealed records without going to court, which I had been told was not possible and they told me that they had 'connections' because of all the work they do for the government. (this is not the case, my first belief was and still is true) turns out the state agency will give me what I need for a fee of $275, and which involves getting a court order) there simply is no other back door way to get info if both parties don't register. what I will get is non identifying info, such as medical, and whether the parties are alive. . In the US some states have matching services and other services which you can find on that states' dept of vital records site, or dept of health. Most of these have fair and minimal fees if any. And the people there are quite friendly and reachable. good luck with your search. My state is Illinois, one of the more difficult ones.

I presume this is in the USA, isn't there somewhere in the states that rate these kind of places. I have just had a look at their website as I am in the UK, I know nothing of the site or how they work. My friend used the second agency with amazingly quick results, the person she was searching for was found very quickly and they were soon re-united.
