Do you know what cemetery your friend was buried in? If so, you could contact the cemetery and see if they have an obit in their records. They can also tell you what funeral home handled the services and they for sure could tell you if there was an obit,

Not everyone posts a death notice for a deceased friend or family member. Usually the paper charges for this service and sometimes people don't want to spend the money or just can't find the right words to put into a publication. If it has only been a few days wait a week, some papers only publish that kind of notices once a week. If you know your friend's obituary or death notice was posted but can't find it then give the local paper a call and see if they will search for it for a small fee. Also try town, county, and possibly larger neighboring city papers.
