I did not run it down... but if you are working Gloucestershire, here are some maps

I searched on yell.com, but it says that the place does not exist? Maybe thats an old name, and the place has been recently updated and changed name??
it's not in England. There is in Russia and in Spain.
Theres an oban in scotland - are you sure of the spelling and rough area?
I have found a Gazetteer for you and some other sites you may find helpful,

Have you thought about the fact that there may have been a boundary change between the two census dates, have a look at the information re: boundary changes from 1844-1974,

it could well be that this is what happened to change the geographical location of Odan.

Below are the family history societies for the areas, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

It may be an abbreviation for Oddington. It's a bit of a specialised question. How about contacting Gloucestershire records office ?

O.K. Imagine that you cannot write your name let alone the name of your Town or village and you have a thick country accent. Someone is going to have to write it for you and has a problem understanding you. Try to find place names which
sound closest to Odan or Oden in Gls and in Wks.
For example, close to Brisul (Bristol) there is a place Almondsbury - pronounced by the locals as Ahmsbry or even Ames-bry (who would have thought that my name was Vronicul Aleesul?!).
The best I can come up with at the moment is a corruption of Oldland, Gls., from whence my coal miners came.
Founts of all knowledge are the archivists at Bristol Central Library, College Green, Bristol. 1., and the Bristol Record Office. They will have info about old place names and are very helpful.
Edit!!!!!
P.S. Just had another thought - how about "Arden", as in Henley in Arden or Tamworth in Arden? That would give you the Warwickshire bit and Gloucestershire isn't that far to the South by horse and cart!
