www.ancestry.com

Also the Mormon church is THE BEST source of genelogical information (www.lds.org) to start your family tree. No you don't need to be a member of the church and they are very helpful in this area.
Here are a few:

http://www.familysearch.org/
http://tribalpages.com/
http://www.rootsweb.com/
http://www.genealogy.com/index_n.html

Hope I've Helped!~

Not sure exactly what you want. Are you trying to research your family or are you looking for a site that you can put your family tree on.

Ancestry.Com you can do both. Cyndi's list has a multitude of genealogy sites.

Your public library might have a subscripion to Ancestry.Com you can utilize. They have all the U. S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 is not available to the public yet.
They have U. K. censuses also.

Now, if you are searching, be very very careful about taking as fact everything you see in family trees on any website, free or paid. The information is submitted by folks like you and me, not necessarily experts.
Most of the information is not documented. You might see repeatedly the same information from many different submitters. That doesn't mean it is right. All too frequently, people are copying without verifying.

Use the information as clues as to where to obtain the documentation. On Ancestry.Com and Rootsweb(free site) you can probe on a name and it will give you the
name and email address of the submitter.

Another free site is FamilySearch.org(Latter Day Saints). They are specialist in genealogy. You can download their software from their site.

Now my information is for someone in the U. S. This is an All English Speaking Board.
It is for the U. S., U.K. Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Those in the U. K. will have other suggestions in case you live there.

Good Luck!
There are 250,000 sites devoted to genealogy data.
The only two I know of that let you build your tree on-line (Enter your data into a collection) are Ancestry and Tribal Pages.

Most of us use a program on our PC to collect our data. The Mormons will let you download "PAF" for free. You can get the "Lite" version of Legacy for free too. Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic are about $30.

If you get a couple of hundred people, you can upload them to Roots Web World Connect and GenCircles, where you might make a connection.
Could you be more specific in what you want to do so we can better assist you. I'm not sure if you are wanting to put your family tree online or research it.
