as sarcastic as the first answer seems, it actually has relevance. Knowing the "ancient" origin of a name is misleading. Unless you do your own research, you have no proof whatsoever that the original ancestor of yours came from Portugal, or anywhere else. Many surnames are not now, what they were 100 yrs ago.
