Question:

Question about an ancestor in Broadmoor prison asylum?

I have an ancestor who was in Broadmoor from 1876 to 1907.
My third cousin tried to get photocopies of the records but they only gave him a basic summary for £17. He said that there were letters which had been wrote to him from home. They are transferring the records to the local PRO and they say it will take 2 years to catalogue them and all enquries must be sent to Broadmoor. Is there anyway I could get hold of these records through the freedom of information act?

The hardyz - I challenge you to study your family history if you can muster up any sort of intelligence to do that. I'm sure you have a few black sheep in yours as do most people. Either that or your family were just boring nonentities with no colourful characters.

I've just found out that you are 12 so that explains why you are so immature. You actually have a mental age of about 7

The actual records about individuals are either held at The National Archives, Kew (but are currently closed), held by the Berkshire Record Office (see Record Keeping magazine Spring 2007 from The National Archives, Kew or are still held at Broadmoor although records about policy and individuals may be available in the series quoted above, in particular in Home Office records. T 165/4 gives information about the history of Broadmoor, Bethlem and various subjects concerning Broadmoor and is one of a series of Blue Notes T 165 which were compiled for Ministers on various government departments and institutions.
