Question:

Looking for World War II Veteran Information?

My Great Uncle died in World War II. My family is quite closed lip about it, due to some bitterness about the war and the loss of my Uncle. I am a huge history fan and would love to find out more information about my Uncle, what he did in the war, where he died, and if he is buried anywhere. Does anyone know of any websites or informational pages where I can find out more information about my Uncle.

From what I have found out he worked with the
533rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment
**I am really curious to find out what he did in the war

His name is Lester Lavern Zornes or Lavern Lester Zornes.
I am really not sure which as my family will not talk about him.

Any information websites or anything would be a lot of help!!

THANK YOU!!!!

It's an unusual name - I can find only 1 other person with that surname in the UK, living in the Home Counties. http://ebsr.net/
is this same unit? ancestry.com has great census and death records, if you don't feel like paying to sign up try their 14-day free trial and make use of their great tools at hand.

You could also try genealogy.com they are pretty similar Not sure if this is your Lester Zornes but found the cemetery of a Lester L. Lornes buried in the North African American (ABMC) Cemetery and Memorial Cemetery in Tunis, Tunisia

It says on the memorial entered the service in Washington.
This cemetery is mostly for the Americans killed in North Africa during World War Two

found it on www.find a grave. com Are you sure about the 533rd EBSR? If so then your uncle couldn't be buried in North Africa because the 533rd served it's time in the Pacific Campaign in WW II
