Question:

I am 25% Indian. I can't Prove it but why would I want to?

Hello.
My Grand-mother was Full Blooded Indian, which would make my Mother 50% and me, 25%. Is this correct?

My Aunt always told me that there was no records because they were destroyed in a Courthouse Fire (years ago).

We always thought that she was full of it because she didn't want anyone to know her real age. After she passed (years passed by this time) I did check it out on the computer. She wasn't lying.

So, from the pictures that I've seen. I am convinced that my Granny was Indian. But all my family has passed and would be super hard to find any records.

What is the point of proving that I was 25% Indian? Is there some kind of monatary benefits in it or something I don't know about?

Just like to know.

Thanks,
Mike h.

I found her!

I looked on the Dawes List and there she was. All the information matches and I know that it's her because she has a weird name.

It said 'FULL' next to her name so that checks out as full blooded. She was a member of the Chickasaw Tribe.

Now, what the heck do I do? I'm serious, I have no idea what to do know.

Do I contact the Chickasaw Tribe? What do I say to them? How do I contact them....I feel like I won the lottery but with my luck, the jackpot would only be worth 5 bucks!

Have you looked on the Dawes Roll to see if you locate her and her registration number? You didn't say what tribe. I would google the tribe to see what they tell you about what they offer and how to apply.

I'm 50% Cherokee but can't prove it because there are no records and mine wasn't on the Dawes Roll. But that doesn't keep me from trying to find the proof. I am proud of my heritage rather I am documented or not.

I emailed you the info you need to proceed now. I know the feeling you get when you find something. Just like a little kid at Christmas and Santa left a big haul. Congrats. Now just follow what I gave you and you will be good to go. never know. you will know about yourself. try one of those very expensive genographic tests to get science behind you. you can report yourself as a minority through 1/8..therefore, on applications and government records, you may be eligble for affirmative action. also, u may want to check into the specific indian laws, but you may be entitled to benefits Maybe you can locate on a reservation and build a casino.
The world needs more casinos. personal knowledge You may be able to get educational grant money When you try to find your lineage, it helps to explain some of your traits or your family's traits. I also had the same problem of proving that my grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee. Still no answer to that question except for the dark hair and dark skin on my father's side of the family. One member of the family researched this and said that she was not Indian but a dark Scot who lived in the hills of Scotland. Still working on it though. My niece proved that she was 1/8 Indian through our side of the family and her father's side of the family. She displays it on her driver's license with pride.
