What is a really good site for finding your family tree for free, if not, for a low price?

I really wanna find out more about my family. (the [Frantz]es) I wana learn about my ancestors so I want a good website to trace back my family tree.

ancestry.com allows a free trial period. Your local library probably has ancestry sites to use free of charge, and of course, books. You can also check the courthouses (whereever the ancestors were), genealogy websites (think states, counties, cities, surnames, etc.). And, of course, just type a surname into a search engine... I think it was ancestry.com but I'm not sure. they have a free 14-day trial on ancestry.com you could get some great use out of that We get your question a lot. You probably have had somone tell you that they know someone who found their family tree on the internet.

I doubt very seriously if you will find your complete family tree on the internet. You might find some of your family lines. If you do you must verify the information. There are errors in family trees on the internet. They are submitted by folks like you and me. Even if you see the same information repeatedly by many different subscribers you can't take it for granted that it is correct. There is a lot of copying being done without verifying. Most of the information is not documented.

Check your public library. See what all they have. They might have a subscription to Ancestry.Com you can utilize. Ancestry.Com has lots of records and is getting more all the time. They have all the U. S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 is not available to the public yet. They have the U. K. censuses also.

They also have message boards which will enable you to make contact with long lost distant cousins. You can go under a name or a location. When you put one on Ancestry.Com's it appears on Rootsweb(free site) and vice versa. It will also appear on the Rootsweb mailing list. You can check out Rootsweb but it does not begin to have all the records Ancestry.Com has.

However, be careful with taking the information in their family trees as fact also.
They have 3 family trees programs from the public. Ancestry World Tree, their oldest and largest. One World Tree which I would recomment your not paying any attention to what they have. It is a mess. Public Member Trees which I am now finding it a joy to put my family tree in.

Also call your nearest Latter Day Saints(Mormon) Church and find out if they have a Family History Center. They have records on people all over the world, not just Mormons. In Salt Lake City, they have the world's largest genealogical collection. Their Family History Centers can order microfilm for you to view at a nominal fee.

They don't bring up their religion and they won't send their missionaries by to ring your doorbell. They are extremely nice.

Don't get too involved in trying to find the origin of a surname. The same surname can come from more than one nationality.
Also not everyone with the same surname is related or share ancestors.
