Question about Irish Citizenship?

My dads grandparents were both born in Ireland. My dad was born in the early 50s. Also, his mother was born in Ireland. If my great grandparents, and maternal grandmother were born in Ireland, how much Irish do I have? Would my dad be auto-matically considered an Irish citizen since his mother was born there? thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: http://www.movetoireland.com/movepag/pas... Note the first persons answer, Not an official site, makes me wonder if the information is correct. YOU ARE HALF IRISH. It depends on what nationality your mother's people are and your maternal grandfather's as to what percentage Irish you are. You are at least 1/2 as I see it from what info you have given. And no your father,if born in the US, is not an Irish citizen. He is an American or wherever he was born. Your father could get Irish passport/citizenship. Any child or grandchild of someone born in Ireland can do this. You would also be eligible yourself as grandchildren are part of it as well. My grandmother was born in Ireland and I'm around the same age as your dad. both my brother and I are trying to find information on her as I believe you need to have a birth record of the person, to prove they were born in Ireland. If your dad's mother was born in Ireland, then he has automatic Irish citizenship. You can claim Irish citizenship by having your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

The following information from the site below explains entitlement to Irish citizenship:

A. Born in the island of Ireland on or before 31 December 2004 - Entitled to Irish citizenship or you are an Irish citizen
B. Born on the island of Ireland on or after 1 January 2005 - Entitled to Irish citizenship if your parents are Irish. Entitled to Irish citizenship, if your parents are foreign nationals legally resident in Ireland for three out of four years immediately prior to your birth
C. Child of A, born outside the island of Ireland - An Irish citizen
D. Child of C and a grandchild of A, born outside the island of Ireland - Entitled to Irish citizenship, but you must first register in the Foreign Births Register
E. a child of D and a great-grandchild of A, born outside the island of Ireland - Entitled to Irish citizenship, by having your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register, but only if your parent D had registered by the time of your birth.
