Question:

I have a geneaology question. I know my great grandfather and grandfather came to the USA in Nov 1882?

I have the information that I need but I would love to get my hands on the ship manifest. How do I go about doing this?
My greatgrandfather, great aunt, and grandfather came to the USA on Nov 8, 1882. They were from Belgium. They came on the steamship called the BELGENLAND. I believe they came from Antwerp to New York. The records for Ellis Island are all after 1882. That is one of my problems trying to find the right source. Thanks for your kind help.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You don't give a surname, so I can't send it directly to you. But Ancestry.com does have the manifests for the Belgenland from 1882 filmed and if you email me through my profile with your email address (the YA system doesn't allow attachments), I'd be happy to save a copy from Ancestry and email it to you. Try the web sites below, you may also wish to try

www.findmypast.com, a lot of ships from Europe stopped at Queenstown in Ireland which at that time was part of the UK, and they carry passenger lists.

Good look and good hunting no best reply here, just a comment...
I knew about immigrant ships, but that already got put up.
next comes G's mom...
SOMETIMES in genealogy, the answer to the question simply turns out to be...
Ask, and ye shall receive. You need to verify that they lived in Belgium, not just departed from there.

A lot of people departed from the port of Antwerp, but were citizens of another country, and were not Belgian. Same with ports of Bremen and Hamburg in Germany.

Check the genealogy boards on the internet for that same surname. You may find others that can help you find the information you seek.
