Question:

Is my surname nice?

my name is hannah louise sweeting my surname some people call me sweet is it weird?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's not weird, in fact it's somewhat sweet, Sweeting.

You may be interested to know that the Sweeting surname originated in Somerset in England, before the Norman conquest, and is currently used by 2,048 people on the UK electoral roll. it's cute. I don't mind it - though I suppose it does lend itself to some good natured ribbing.

Believe me, there are a lot worse names to have. Nothing odd about that! You are who you are! I like it! Not weird. distinctive, have you ever though that those people who say it's weird are just a little jealous. Count your blessings. I suffered from "Pack rat" all the way through high school.

It is an old name. Here are the first 10 of 200+ people in the USA in 1880:

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/f... maybe 90% of persons don't "like" their name at one point or another (and sometimes there are good reasons). We see people here asking how to change their names.. and since that makes it hard for tracing families, genealogists have a real hard time with that. <grin>
Granny C suggests that you need to remember that those who make fun of you, will grow up sooner or later. In your case, the nickname is affectionate, I think. Remember it belongs to your family/ relatives, and be proud.
