Question:

I want to visit my extended family in Scotland.. Do you think that they will accept me?

My great grandfather migrated to Jamaica during the late 1800's I guess for property reasons... My family owns a lot of land, mansions, in Jamaica. My grandfather and father were born in Jamaica, but they both had British citizenship since they traveled to and fro. Well, since my grandfather lived in Jamaica, he married an ethnic woman. I have no idea what ethnicity of grandmother is. All that I know is that she's Chinese and Black with someone else. Anywho, my mother is African-American so I am not White like my distant relatives in Scotland. I have tanned skin, mahogany eyes, and I have slightly Asian features. My hair is long and wavy. I usually wear gray contacts and the lighting makes it look like my eyes are naturally blue. Do you think that they will accept me since I look so different?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I have absolutely no doubt that you'll be accepted, the Scots are lovely friendly people as far as I'm concerned, my life long best friend is Scottish and she is so lovely. Of course you will sweetie.People now day come with open arms to meet their distant relatives; even if they haven;t known anything of your family;s for ys.Scots are very fun and loving people; and i think it will be a blast for you to go and discover..lots of luck always Shelly If they're good people they'll accept you. Speak to them first about visiting, try not to spring it on them with a few weeks notice, maybe give them a few months! Blood is thicker than water - go on take a chance you have nothing to lose & lots to gain! Good Luck x The Scots are a warm and friendly people and will accept you no problem, anyone who has a problem with the colour of your skin is not worth knowing anyhow.

I would make contact by letter first just to create a dialogue so they know you are coming,

Good luck and good hunting We like different in Scotland. I'm sure you'll fit in very well here. As long as you aren't a Yardie (LOL). We are a very multi-cultural society here. My wife is Brasilian. Her family on the dad's side of the family are Spanish, on her Mum's there is a mix of German/African/Native Indian/Portuguese. She doesn't look black though. She's got tanned skin like you & long curly hair & brown eyes. I guess she has quite "black" lips. I love the way she looks, that's what makes her special to me!
