Whoops - did you know your uncle Bruce was born just 4 months after grandpa and grandma got married? Guess they were fooling around in the back seat right after he came home from WWII and the Air Corps. What woman could resist a guy with an RAF mustache and 6 Messerschmidt kills? At least he did the right thing by her.

Just kidding - but that is WHY we don't post data about living people on the genealogy sites. If you can get to people born before 1900 on your own, there is a good chance you can get back much further on some lines. The resolved questions are full of links and tips. No, it isn't that easy. I think the word is out that someone found their family tree on the internet. However, if the someone that found their family tree hasn't verified what they have found, they probably have a lot of junk.

You probably won't find your complete family on the internet. You might find some of your family lines. However, you have to be very careful about taking as fact everything you see in family trees on any website, free or paid. The information is submitted by folks, like you and me. Most of it is not documented or poorly documented. You might see different information by different submitters on the same person. Then you will see over and over again the same information on the same person by different submitters without documentation. This, unfortunately, means foolish people are copying without verifying.

Use the information as clues as to where to obtain the documentation.

Go to your public library and find out what all they have. They might have a subscription to Ancestry.Com which has lots of records and is getting more all the time. They have all the U. S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 is not available to the public yet. They have U.K. censuses also.

Now, still don't take as fact what you see in family trees on their website. They have 3 Family Tree Programs. Ancestry World Tree which is their oldest and largest. One World Tree which is an absolute mess. There is the new Public Member Trees which is growing and is a joy to work with.

Call your nearest Latter Day Saints(Mormon) Church and find out if they have a Family History Center. They have records on people all over the world, not just Mormons. In Salt Lake City, they have the world's largest genealogical collection. Their Family History Centers can order microfilm for you to view at a nominal fee.

They don't bring up their religion and they won't send their missionaries by to ring your doorbell.

Cyndi's list has a lot of websites good to use for genealogical research.

Also if you haven't done so, get as much information from living family as possible, particularly senior members. Tape them if they will let you. It might turn out they are confused on some things but what might seem to be insignificant story tellings and rambling might be very important.

We, my two cousins and I, have been searching our family tree for over five years now, we finally got back to 1836 but it cost us a little money once we got into Europe. The priests of the smaller towns wouldn't help without donations and help of their own, so, we had to "dig"

A lot of back and forth across America and lost records but, we finally got there. If it's as easy as they make it for you, your in luck but, I find it hard to believe after belonging to several clubs that deal with family trees, unless they're all wrong.
