Question:

In researching your family tree ; have you found any skeletons in the closet?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Oh Yes I have one direct relative on the 1841 census in Bodmin goal for what I do not know and two other (yes two) transported to Australia. In my mind this all adds colour to my history. No, they were all buried. However, I did find one that had been cremated.... he must have had secrets ; ) I would not know where to start. I am dying to try it but the grandmother i thought was my grandmother turned out to be my fathers auntie and the auntie turned out to be the grandmother. My mothers mother was supposed to have died in the war and the auntie we used to visit has turned out to be the grandmother. I cannot get to the truth and it is quite unsettling. Looks like the envasion of the ghost pirate army in Pirates of the Carribean. : )
I guess I'll be just one more someday! peace Yep, I found a large one with a label on the big toe: all it says is Goliath. The only forensic evidence of death is a little stone lodged between his eyes. Grandad David was quite a boy in his day. I should say old boy, here's 50 bob to keep stumm my good chap. Tip top It's the treasure in the attic I really need right now not the skeletons in the closet! found out from my grandmother that one of her ancesters was put in Reading goal for stealing the Duke of Wellington's boots . lol yes...lots of shotgun marriages! I have been hoping to find some since I started. I have found my first ancestor in prison yesterday, but it's only my 3x Great Granfather's nephew so not that close. Not done one yet. But in the future, I shall probably be that skeleton. I think I have, and it's really bugging me. Great Grandad was a policeman, so was very correct in all his actions. He was the eldest of his family, and born in 1851.
So why did he change his surname? Haven't yet found out when, only know it was before 1880, and probably by 1872. In the 1881 census the two brothers and sister that I have found are using the original family name. I have never heard anything about it from his children or grandchildren, and don't think they knew. Sadly all are dead now.
I can only conclude that there must have been some family scandal causing himelf to distance himself from the others.
Enquiries are continuing. yes, We consider that any Family Secret, the biggest one is how many 1st Cousins married in our family?
This used to be common place. I found a cousin that use to run moonshine no,only living corpses, honest.
