If your ancestors came through Ellis Island from all parts of Europe, the organization has a wealth of information. My dad found how, when, where my great-grandmother got to this country. Another good source is birth and death records. These days, birth records are a little more difficult to obtain, but there is a website that lists the death records. Googlize SSA (Social Security Administration). The third way is more expensive and that is to subscribe to a website that tracks people, dead or alive. One very good one is Merlin.com.
