Question:

Does anyone know what the surname "Henley" came from ?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: At Ancestry.com I got a bunch of hits in the immigration category for England, Wales, Scotland, Australia, and different provinces in Canada.

It could be an English/Scottish/Welsh name in the distant past, with some families later moving to Canada and Australia (if the Australian branch dates to the 19th century, it could even descend from the penal colony at Botany Bay).

But this is all sheer speculation. You need to provide more information, such as where the family of interest is living now, where their immediate ancestors (if you know) came from, etc, etc. There are just to many open possibilities at this point.

You can do some looking yourself for free at Rootsweb.com. Just go to their site at www.rrotsweb.com and enter "Henley" in the last name field on the left (that's the free one - the one on the right takes you to Ancestry.com, a paid site). Enter a first name if you know one. Hit enter, and you're sure to get a bunch of hits that you can explore.

Good luck!
