Find family farm?

I have family that farmed and had homesteads in Iowa and Neb. of course i am sure that land has been long developed. I would love to be able to at least find out where exacttly these places where located. Does anyone know if towns might keep land records from the late 1800's to early 1900's?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Accually, they are most likely still farms. The mid-west has not been developed the same as the costal areas. check via rootsweb for local courts that can pull the records, normally there's a fee for them to do this.
but you can pruse the site to see if you can locate info on your family prior to requesting county info too.
