Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The Ancient Sumerian civilization arose in Mesopotamia, present day Iraq around 3200BC. This is more than 1000 years before the pyramids were built in Egypt. They were responsible for many great inventions like writing (cuneiform it was called) the wheel, a number system that we use calculating time today based on 6 (60 min hour, etc.) and many others.
