Question:

What is the world's oldest lastname/surname?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The first last name recorded in Europe is O'Clery in 916 A.D. It is recorded in the Irish Historical Records. The ancient Romans used "cognomen" to identify themselves, much earlier than this.
We usually refer to them with only the last name (cognomen), such as, Marcus Tullius Cicero, who we call Cicero, or Gaius Julius Caesar, who we call Caesar.
