Question:

How do I find a family member for a service man, who served back in 1943 or abouts.?

The only other details that I have is a name and place of where he lived.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If he was an American, and you are his family, you can write for his service records, which may have his parents listed as his next of kin at the time:

The British, Candian, Australian, Fench, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian governments may have records too; they certainly all had men in their armed forces in 1943.

If he served in 1943 he was born in 1927 or earlier, so he may be dead by now. If you can find his obituary, it would list his survivors.

is the biggest list of dead people in the USA, but it is far from complete.

You can probably guess which side he fought for by where he lived, but not always. There were Norwegians, Poles, South Africans nd Rhodesians in the RAF, for instance.
