Scottish canadians?

Scottish canadians?

do canadians who have scots heritage consider themselves just as scottish as the scots from scotland.
I have scottish heritage but do not consider myself scottish.
But i have spoken to canadians who (laughably) consider themselves scottish first.

would anyone back this statement up

I am with you. My family surname is Scottish, and my ancestors migrated from Scotland through New York prior to the American Revolution. The were Loyalists, and had needed talents, so the English put them in Nova Scotia and gave them land.

From that perspective, their children were Scottish, loyal subjects to the crown, just happen to be living in Canada. The same is true today - for some people. They are still loyal to the English Crown, therefore still Scottish.
