Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If you live in the city and pay a sewer bill, you water ends up in a wastewater treatment plant. The solids settle out and are degraded as much as possible using natural breakdown (similar to composting). The rest is also left to breakdown through natural bacterialogical processes and purified and typically discharged back into a lake or river. If you are in a rural area, your waste goes into a sewage disposal system which is your own private wastewater treatment plant and let go to filter back into groundwater.
