Ancestors information?

I am looking to find all the information i can about my great great grandfather who did alot for the city of milwaukee wisconsin like held political office developed a community hand a bank there and so forth but i was wondering if there is a site where i could figure most of the info about him ..im looking for schooling info, jobs he held...basically anything i can find about him.. not just when he died and who he got married to and his birth...anyone know of anything like this?
